Taking a picture of a rainbow

Question:

Dear Rabbi,

How does halacha treat a jew who might take a photo of a rainbow. Is this halachaic legal and can the photo be shared?

Thanks.

Answer:

I don’t see any halachic problem with taking a photo of a rainbow. There is an issue with taking a picture of the sun, because it is a celestial body, but this does not apply to a rainbow. There is an idea though that when one sees a rainbow, not to tell other people about it, and not to stare at it for a long time. However this idea is not mentioned regarding not showing a photo of a rainbow to other people.

Best Wishes
