Mezuzah – take down

Question:

Dear Rabbi,

I used to work in a bank branch. This is a non-Jewish institution. When I started my job I called a Rabbi and he installed Mezuzahs on the doors that allow the public to come in into the branch. I left this institution an I would like to take the Mezuzahs down and install them in a Jewish place. Can I do that? Thank you.

Answer:

If the bank that you left is run by gentiles, you should remove the mezuza. The reason is because if it left there is a danger that they will treat it disrespectfully.

Best Wishes
