I am in Israel and hold one day yom tov. Shabbos is after pesach. Can I buy kitnyus on erev yom tov to eat on shabbos
Answer:
From a strict halachicaspect It is permitted to buy kitnois on Chol Hamoed for Shabbos which is right after Pesach. The reason being is because you are preparing for Shabbos, which is a mitzva and permitted on Chol Hamoed. However there are poskim that frown upon this because we should not involve ourselves with kitnios in Pesach (for Ashkenazim), as things can get mixed up, etc. and not eating kitnois is a very strong minhag for the Ashkenazim.
As a side point, there is controversy regarding cooking or preparing kitnois on Yom Tov itself for Shabbos which is after Pesach, that would be permitted according to many poskim it would be permitted to even cook kitnoit to eat on Shabbos. In order to understand the reason we have to understand why an eruv tavshilim helps to permit cooking from Chol Hamoed or Yom Tov to Shabbos wich is after Yom Tov, which can be a biblical prohibition. The reson we are allowed to cook from Yom Tov to Shabbos is based on the rationale that the food that was make on yom tov can technically be used and eaten on Yom Tov itself, (hoyil umiklei leih orchim). This renders the preparing of the food a rabbinical prohibition, and the Rabbis said that if an eruv tavshilim is made, then it is permitted. The poskim say since in Eretz Yisroel there are many Sefardim who eat kitnois, therefore it is possible to give them to a Sefardi to eat. Therefore if one makes an eruv tavshilim he may prepare kitnois food or buy it on chol hamoed for shabbos after chol hanoed. See sources
