Question:
A shule I attend on shabbos sometimes just instituted a guard (non jew) who uses an electronic wand. Is this mutar? Can I “be wanded” on shabbos? what about my wife (both for shabbos purposes and tzniut)?
Answer:
It is permitted for you to “be wanded”, because the guard is not checking you for your benefit, but because this is his job, therefore he is really doing it for himself. Regarding the tznius it might be better for a woman to do it, but you don’t really have a choice, and he isn’t touching the women, but only moving the wand near her body, and it isn’t being done as part of a relationship, therefore it is permitted.
