Do I need to toivel used glass jars?

Question:

Do I need to toivel used glass jars (mayo, coffee, etc) before using them for food products? For example, using a used mayo jar to store soup?

Answer:

According to R’ Moshe Feinstein zt”l you don’t have to tovel it, since it was considered subservient to the food it contained, and now that you decided to reuse it, you are the one making it a kli therefore it doesn’t need tevila. Most other poskim however say that now that it is being reused, it is considered a kli and it needs tevila, according to some with a bracha and according to others without. The best thing would be to tovel it without a bracha, many however rely on R’ Moshe.

Best Wishes
