Glue on end knot Tzitzit

Question:

I found an (old) new talis that has glue at the end knots of the TZITit.(not string ends) The END KNOT HAS glue to keep knots from untieing. IS THIS PERFECTLY FINE LECHATCHILA? I would like to make a BRACHA ON THE TALIS and be yozei my talis kattan as well. Are there any opinions that say that its not hallachically correct? Im makpid about having a kosher TZITZIT.

Answer:

You can make a bracha on this tallis without worry. Although there are opinions that it is better to tie the ends of the tzitzis instead of gluing them, however that is only which is better to do as a first choice, however in your situation it was already done. It is L’chatchila to wear the tallis

Best wishes

Shevet Hakehosi 6-9, Shevet Halevi 10-8, See Piskei Teshuvos 11-14 ftnt. 85 in the name of Halacha Berura that has an issue with it if the strings are only the exact size, because maybe applying the glue takes away the “shezira” on that part of the strings, however Shevet Halevi rejects this idea, since it is “shazur”.

  1. I just want to make sure. THE END KNOTS ARE glued. NOT THE TIPS OF THE STRINGS. Are we on the same page. THANK YOU.

    1. They are both the same page. If the glue is there to help the tzitzis it isn’t a chatzitza and permitted. It shiould however be clear glue that will not change the color of the tzitzis strings.

      1. M’svara, the two cases appear to be similar, as you mention. But is there an explicit source that discusses the questioner’s case? The 3 sources you cited all discuss applying glue to the tips of the strings; none of them address the question at hand – applying glue to the end knots. Shkoiach!
