New car part

Question:

Does one make a shehechiyanu on a new car part? My car was damaged and the insurance ordered a new trunk hood and it is actually a fancier trunk hood (it is from the luxury model). Can I make a bracha on that part? If yes would the Bracha be shehechiyanu or since it benefits my family hatov vehameitiv?

Answer:

I am very happy for you that you got a new fancy hood for your car, and it is also nice that you want to thank H-shem for it. Regarding making shehechiyanu though, it isn’t considered a new item but rather a repair of you old car, therefore you wouldn’t say a bracha, but you should definitely thank H-shem for it. You could also have in mind the new hood the next time you bentch and say hatov v’hameitiv.

Best wishes
