Question:
Is there any halachic issue with having a trophy deer head in our house? Our 11 year old son has an interest in these type of objects.
Answer:
Halachically I don't see any prohibition to having them, however it is just not a Jewish thing to do. Jews pride themselves with having compassion and being kind to people and animal, not by showing off how much we can kill, and trap. We don't kill animals just as a sport, nor do we decorate our homes with swords and spears. These are the tools or Eisav, not Yackov. However again, halachically there is no prohibition against having them, but it would be a good idea to "steer" him to some sort of hobby that is more in line with Jewish values.
Best wishes
