Question:
BS"D
1 Can a couple have in their room a sefer torah saved?
2 Can a couple also have in their room books: Talmud, Shulchan Arukh, Zohar among others Seforim?
Answer:
- A couple should not have a sefer torah in their room, and if possible it should be moved to another room. If there is no other option, then relations are permitted only if there is a halachic separation wall made. The separation has to be ten tefachim (30-40 inches) high, and it can not be made out of a sheet or other cloth that is not solid and can blow in the wind.
- Seforim may be kept in the room, however relations are not permitted unless the seforim are in a kli b'toch kli (lit. vessel within a vessel). If both coverings are the seforim's usual covering, they are considered as only one cover. A double sheet is acceptable for seforim. If the seforim are in a bookcase, a double cover in front of it will suffice.
Best wishes
