Question:

shalom aleichem.

having also university background i asked myself about the etymology of mekubalim.

what it means exactly.

do you have an approach to explain the term mukubalim in brief?

best regards,
all the best;

Answer:

A mekubal is a person that is knowledgeable in Kaballah. The word Kabalah comes from the word l’kabel to receive.  The reason it is called this is because these are the secrets of the Torah and it was only handed down from Rabbi to student, and was not supposed to be written. Even after it was written, it is meant only for the pious and very learned rabbis to study.

Best wishes
