Question:
Is it permitted to fast until plag hamincha during Nissan? I accepted a certain number of fasts as penance for past sins. Some of them were only until plag. Can I keep these during Nissan, or should they wait for Iyar?
Answer:
This is an interesting question. The poskim that I consulted with on this said, that since chodesh Nissan essentially a happy time, and that is the reason we don’t fast, (see Rema 429-2) therefore even fasting part of a day should not be done. Therefore it should be pushed off until Iyar.
