How to recite tehillim:

Question:

I’d like to take upon myself to start to recite tehillim. I don’t have anyone specific in mind. I’d like to maybe read a little a day. In hopes that my prayers can reach out to anyone in need, especially throughout this era. Can you explain how to use a tehillim book in general. I procured one and would greatly appreciate assistance. Thank you.

Answer:

That is very nice and considerate of you to think of all of those unfortunate sick people that so desperately need our tefillos. Tehillim is a book that was written mostly by King David, and it contains many of the prayers that he said, during many of his difficult times, and saying Tehillim is a way of praying in a time of need, such as now. The main thing is that it be said with concentration, understanding what one is saying. Since you are not familiar with the words or their translation, use a Tehillim that has English translation so you can read the English as you say it. The amount of chapters is not the idea, but the realization while saying it that i am not beseeching H-shem and taking to Him, and pleading with Him to help me and whomever I am davening for.

May H-shem hear your tefillos and the tefillos of all of Klal Yisroel, send a refuah shleima to those who are sick, and prevent those that aren’t sick form getting sick.
