Question:
Can I use an old milchig pot not used for few many months, possibly year, and old frying pan not used for years to cook pareve food that I want to eat with dairy or meat. What would I need to do if able to make them officially pareve?
Answer:
The minhag is not to kasher from milchig to fleishig and vise versa, however from milchig to pareve is fine, and then the pot will be pareve. Make sure the pot is totally clean, inside and out, fill it up until the top with water and bring to a nice boil. Take a ladle of some other instrument, make it nice and hot, and then insert it into the boiling pot so that the hot water overflows and kashers the very top of the walls of the pot. Pour out the water and rinse out the pot in cold water and now it is pareve.
Best wishes
