Question:
Is it yichud for a Sephardic woman to be alone with 2 Ashkenazi men? Generally, it is not enough for 1 sephardi woman to be alone with 2 men. However, if both men are Ashkenazi (and it is therefore ok for them), would she be able to rely on that as well?
Answer:
It is Yichud for a Sephardi woman to be secluded with two men, even if they are Ashkenazim. The reason for the different customs between the Ashkenazim and Sefardim is not because Ashkenazi men are different then Sephardi men. Rather because the Sephardi custom is to follow the Shulchan Aruch and the Ashkenazi one is to follow the Rema. According to the Shulchan Aruch "Maran" yichud is prohibited between a woman and two men, unless the two men are extremely pious, to the degree that we don't even have nowadays, therefore essentially the prohibition would apply to yichud with any two men. The Rema differs and according to him, it is permitted for her to be secluded with two men who are not promiscuous (prutzim). Therefore as far as the Sephardi woman is concerned all men would be the same. .
