Is it proper to say kriyas shma al hamita (ribono shel olam until adon olam, excluding shema and birchas hamapil) a while before going to bed?
Sometimes I am getting ready for bed and would like to say hamapil, but know that I might end up doing other things around the house before I actually go to bed. (While I”m waiting for my husband, for example)

That is fine. The only issue is with Hamapil and shema.
