Can a buy a car that was once owned by a church?

Question:

Hi Rabbi,

I put down a deposit on a car at a dealership. The dealer said that the previous owner was a Catholic Church. Am I allowed to buy the car? (I am buying it from the dealer but not from the church).

Sometimes I learn Torah or listen to shiurim in the car. Is this a problem?

Answer:

It is permitted to buy the car. The car was already sold from the church, and even when it was in the churches ownership[ it wasn’t used for the actual physical worship of the avoda zara. Therefore it is not an issue. If the car has symbols of the church etc. they should be removed. Additionally if the car has any crosses etc. in it, they should be removed before the sale is completed

Best wishes
