Question:

I would like to donate money to a charity in EY. I live in CA and if I pay by credit card I will be charged a foreign transaction fee. Would that be considered ma’aser (ie the fee) or not as the charity is not receiving this and theoretically I could get a card without a foreign transaction fee. Thank you for helping me out.

Answer:

The expenses incurred in order to donate the money to tzedakah can be included in you maaser calculation, because it is need for the tzedakah. if you can give the money with a different credit card and save he tzedakah this expense, that is preferred.

Best wishes
