a person who is not shochet can he study alone and make his own sechitah for his own consumption? if not what laws prohibit this today?
Answer:
My apologies, but the teshuva that you are referring to is not to giving semicha to shecht over the computer, rather the question there was if the shochet can teach it to this person although he is not a knowledgeable person. It was taught in person, with hands on experience. Additionally, he writes there, that there is a serious issue regarding treifos, because the person doesn’t know the halachos, therefore any question, (if he realizes that it is indeed a question) has to be thrown out. Additionally, it was only for chickens and not for animals The Rema writes that the minhag nowadays is that a shochet needs to get proper training and testing in order to determine that he indeed knows the halachos and the practical technique for shechting properly. See Rema1-1.
Nowadays it is different then it was in 1880. Nowadays meat can be packed and transported great distances, and it is different then it was then when they didn’t have these options. In fact, there are many communities nowadays that import their meat from other cities, and that is how they have their kosher meat.
