Am I allowed to listen to music that is not rightly mine but has been copied from someone else? And am I allowed to listen to music that someone else has copied on to their phone, and they put it on for everyone? Does it make a difference if someone else copied it on to my mp3? What happened was when I was younger my brother copied some music from a friend and I never knew it was copied until a few years ago. My brother also put it on to my mp3 and I had listened to it until I knew it wasn’t legal. Do I get an avera for listening to it when I didn’t know?
Answer:
It is controversial if it is permitted to copy that music or not. L’chatchila it shouldn’t be done, but if it was already done you can listen to it.
