Looking at Exam

Question:

I have an open book exam scheduled after the official date of the exam. The teacher provides past exams to use for study and practice. I initially assumed I would be given an alternate exam but my friend claims it will likely be the same exam. Do I need to refrain from looking at my friend’s exam because of a possibility that it will be the same and constitute cheating?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

My assumption is that your friend is correct. It is not easy for a teacher to make a separate exam for late tests and usually they will just give the original test. That being the case if you looked at the first test, you would already know the answers, and if the teacher thinks you didn’t it would be geneivas daas.

Best wishes on your test
