Preparation for after Shabbos

Question:

R Moshe in Igros Moshe Orcah Chaim Chelek 4 Siman 70 (2) allows cleaning up / tidying up the table which will be used on Motzshbs for Mariv davening. Why is this permitted, surely its hachono for after Shabbos?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

There are one of two reasons why it would be permitted to clean up even if it is for davening maariv. One is because right now it is not a befitting way that a shul should look. Therefore it is considered cleaning it for now. Secondly it is for placing the siddur down even before starting to daven. As a side point there are poskim , (Nishmas Shabbos 94-360) who permit cleaning he shul simply for the honor of the shul.

As a side point, numerous poskim allow preparation during bein hashmashos, when it is only hachana d’rabonon, if it is for one minute to another. For example it is permitted to take a sefer during bein hashmashos to learn, even though it is possible that by the time the sefer is used it will already be after shabbos. This case would be similar to that.
