Change Name

Question:

Lets assume that a Jew who lives in the diaspora desires to change his name and last name because he wants something more Jewish , can he do that ?

Answer:

Hi,

Changing one’s last name is not an issue at all. Regarding changing one’s first name, it would depend on what is his real name, meaning what Jewish name was he given from birth. In general, it should be changed to something Jewish but similar in meaning, sound or context, and it is preferable to do it with the guidance of a Rov.

Best wishes
