Question:
If I come late to mincha, or if the mincha minyan is very fast, and I don’t finish shemona esrei until after the tzibur has finished tachanun, I can either say Aleinu with the tzibur and then tachanun after, or I can say tachanun while everyone is saying aleinu. What is the correct/preferred option?

Answer:
The preferred option is to say tachanun first and then aleinu. The reason is because tachanun essentially is a continuation of shemona esrei, and we shojuldn’t talk out between the two.
