If grandparent is sitting shiva can

Question:

If a grandparent is sitting shiva can the grandchild go to a wedding for a 2nd cousin?

Answer:

Hello,

It is permitted for you to go to the wedding. The reason is because the halachos of mourning with a mourner only apply to a relative that one would have to sit shiva for them. A person does not have to sit shiva for a grandparent, therefore if they are sitting shiva the halachos don’t apply.

Best wishes
