Question:
Hello Rabbi. Can one do laundry the morning after simchat Torah or must it be past a certain time in the day? So in the us, would it be ok to do it early Thursday morning? Thank you.
Answer:
Thank you for your question.
It is permitted to do laundry even on the night after Yom Tov, and there is no need to wait until the next afternoon. Regarding Tisha B'av, we wait to do laundry until the next afternoon. This is because the Bais Hamikdash was still burning until the afternoon of the Tenth of Av, we observe the fast on the Ninth of Av, however do to this fact we abstain from doing laundry and eating meat until after chatzos on the tenth day, as a form of aveilus. Regarding Motzei Shabbos, there are women who have the minhag not to do laundry then. These halachos however do not apply to Motzei Yom Tov, therefore it is permitted to do your laundry even though it is still Isru Chag. (This is unless someone has a specific minhag not to do laundry then.)
Best wishes and have a healthy winter.
