Apartments on top of Aron Kodesh.

Question:

I have recently taken over a 90 year old shul which is in the basement of a building in Yerushalayim. We were thinking about getting a new Aron Kodesh and changing it’s location in the shul (along with changing the location of the women’s section). There are 4 floors of apartments above the Shul, Before we would move the Aron Kodesh to the new location would we need to investigate whether or not there are bedrooms or bathrooms above the new spot?
If so would we have to investigate only the floor above or all 4 floors?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

You should have much hatzlocha in your new shul.

Regarding moving the Aron Hakodesh to a new place, you would have to be careful the it isn’t under a bathroom or bedroom. This would apply for all of the floors above the Aron Hakodesh, but usually the various floors have the same layout where the rooms are located.
