Kosher money

Question:

B”H
Kavod haRav,
Thank you for your help.
1.Is it “kosher money” to accept support from a relative who may have not tithed the money given, if the money is tithed once it reaches me?
2. Is it kosher money to accept if the relative is not yet fully Shomer Torah and mitzvahs but is B”H growing?
Thank you

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

  1. It is permitted to accept support from a relative even though the relative did not take off maser properly. Taking a tenth off money is not the same tithing grains, where the grains are prohibited to eat before taking tithing. With money even the owner is allowed to use the money before it is tithed.
  2. It is permitted to benefit from the money given to you by a relative who isn’t shomer Shabbos yet etc. (With the rare exception that he relative was mechalel Shabbos specifically in order to make this money for you.)

Best wishes
