Hagasa (Mixing) on Shabbos

Question:

Is one allowed to mix a liquidy fully cooked hot dish on Shabbos such as cholent after it has been taken off the fire? The Mishna Berura in 318:117 seems to hold that one should be machmir if possible but if one looks in the Sha’ar HaTzion in 253:79 he seems imply that it is not so necessary to be machmir and he quotes many Acharonim who disagree.
If one should be machmir, can one be meikel with cholent that there is a lot of water at the top and isn’t properly mixed with what is underneath.
Also, would one be allowed to mix it and then return it to the fire (assuming all the conditions of Chazara have been met) or would this be assur as it as if one mixed it on the fire itself (according to the reasoning of the Kol Bo that perhaps with the mixing, a bit of food which is slightly “undercooked” (however one understands that) will get improved with the cooking.
Thank you.

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

According to the Mishna Berura and others that if one wants to be machmir he can, therefore in your case if you don’t want to be machmir, you are not obligated.

Regarding stirring the cholent and then returning it to the fire, see SS”K chap. 1 ftnt 99.
