If the non-Jew turns on a light for a Jew, can’t the Jew stay if there would have been sufficient light to do what he wanted to do, albeit with difficulty?

Without getting into the issue of telling the Non-Jew to do melacha for us. If there was sufficient light to be able to do this particular action, albeit with difficulty, it is permitted to stay there and do that action. I.e. if you could have read with the small amount of light that was originally there, you may continue reading there.
