Hatoras Nedarim for woman that won’t hear shofar

Question:

My wife used to go to shul to listen to showfar. Also, she shook lulav. She wants to know if it becomes hard for her now, did it become a neder that she needs hatarah for ?
Or is it implicitly like saying bli neder ?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

The halacha is that a person who did a minhag of mitzva, meaning a mitzva that the person was not obligated to do, and it was done once with the intention to continue doing it, or if it was done three times consecutively, then it became a neder. Since women are not obligated min hatorah to hear sofar, although they were mekabel on themselves to indeed hear it, it does become a neder. Therefore, if she is not going to hear sofar one year she, (unless she specifically said that she is performing these mitzvos bli neder) she should be matir neder. The same would apply to shaking lulav.

Best wishes
