Question:
We had awhile in our home many items were left unclaimed I cannot identify whose they are a lot of these items are over40
years old I have many large plastic bags full is there anything I can do to be able to discard them I would think they are totally spoiled
Answer:
There is an option so you won’t have to keep all of those items forever. Items that will get ruined with time, or things that you know the owner will not be coming back to claim, can be written down, what they are, if possible, when they were left, and their approximate value, and keep that paper for posterity. This way, if and when someone will make a claim, even if it is after moshiach comes, if they will want the item back you can then pay them the value that it was worth at that time. After doing this, you may throw out or use the items.
