Purim and Avoda Zara question

Question:

Dear Rabbi,

I have two questions:
1) For Purim, when did the practice of making hamantaschen start?
2) I have a question regarding the Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast.” In the movie, there is an enchanted rose that was given to the beast with a spell. Is the rose considered to be avodah zarah, or is it permitted to wear a shirt or nail decal with the rose on it?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

  1. I don’t know when the custom to eat Hamentashen started.
  2. This does not seem to be an avoda zara, as it isn’t something that is worshipped as a deity, therefore it is permitted to wear such a decal on a tee shirt.

Best wishes
