College

Question:

Is it ok to go to a non-Jewish college?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

Going to a non-Jewish college has a number of serious issues for an orthodox Jew. The first issue is that there are subjects that contain avoda zara ideas in them, and even if they are not outright avoda zara, they contain ideals and attitudes that are opposed to torah ideals. The second issue is that in colleges in general, there is a tremendous amount of promiscuity there, and a lot mingling between genders, and a lot worse. This is not a good atmosphere for a Jewish person to be spending long periods of time.

I don’t know your situation, so I can’t advice you personally, but you should look into a Jewish college where the teachers are not seeking to advertise their personal anti-Jewish life view, and which has classes that are separate.

Best wishes
