Shloshim after Pesach

Question:

Hello. Our family suffered a loss on the 12th of Nissan, with the burial taking place the following day, on the 13th. Is the shloshim on the 7th, 12th or 13th of Iyar this year? Thank you.

Answer:

Hamakom yinachem eschem b’toch shar avelei tzion v’Yerushalayim.

When a person starts sitting before Pesach and the Yom Tov comes and cancels the shiva, regarding shloshim, it is considered like a full seven days. Plus another 8 days for Pesach itself, leaves us with 15 days after that, which comes out on the 7th of Iyar.

As a side point, due to the fact that Pesach canceled the shiva, the fact that the burial was on the 12th or the 13th will no make any difference for this halacha.

Best wishes
