Question:
In hilchos tzitzits siman 12 there is a whole discussion about ripped strings and what is considered passul and kosher. My question is if one had all its strings cut all they way down to the gidil (no anaf), but the gidil itself is 12 gedulim ,and if the gidil were undone it would be way longer. Would all agree that such tzitzits are indeed kosher since each string has the required length? It seems that the whole siman 12 is going on the fact that one is using exactly 12 gudlim and any cut of the strings causes a decrease in the required shiur.

There is machlokes among the Rishonim if we can count the 12 gudlim from the beginning of the anaf, (Rashi’s opinion) or if we can start counting them from the beginning of the knots, ( opinion of the Ri). The Shulchan Aruch ( see sources) says that the minhag is to do like Rashi and if the strings got ripped, we will not make a bracha on the tzitzis.
