Can a Kohen doing a PIDYON HABEN during SEFIRA shave and take a haircut?
Answer:
A cohen doing a pidyon Haben during sefira may not shave or take a hair cut. The idea that a baal simcha may take a haircut is said specifically regarding a bris milah, since a bris is like bringing a korban, and a Yom Tov for the parents, mohel and sandak. (Part of the reason is also because doing a bris milah is compared to bringing the child as a korban, and before doing the avoda the kohanim made sure to take a haircut and look presentable.) This idea does not apply to a pidyon haben nor to a bar mitzva.
