Haircut before shacharis

Question:

Can you take a haircut before shacharis if you have a particular minyan you are going to later?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

Even if a person has a specific minyan for shacharis which he attends, nevertheless, we don’t take haircuts before davening. Although it is written that regarding mincha, that if a person has a set minyan where he davens that he may take a haircut after the time of mincha has arrived shacharis is different. When we wake up in the morning we are not allowed to engage in any personal activities before relating to hashem and asking him for our daily needs. For example we may eat a regular meal before mincha if we have a shomer, or someone who will remind us to daven mincha (O:CH 232-2, M:B 232-30, 32) however this will not help for eating before shacharis.  Regarding a person who shaves every morning before going to work, he may shave before shacharis, as this is part of his daily hygiene.

Additionally, a person who needs to take a haircut, may do so before shacharis on erev Shabbos or Yom Tov, if the circumstances ae such that they can’t be done afterwards.

Have a good Shabbos
