I have been B”H setting aside my tithe and some extra money for tzedakah that I put in a tzedakah box. Some of it I gave as my fifth and some I gave as self-punishment for not doing certain things like getting up on time. B”H I had some things happen that have left me relying on people for support, I have been urged to use the tzedakah I have saved up for myself. I do not want to use it, it feels wrong like going against a vow. Am I obligated to use it?

Hello,
Before answering your question, we have to differentiate between, the money given to tzedakah as a self-punishment, and the money that you separated from your earning. The money given as a self-punishment, should not be used for yourself. Otherwise the whole purpose has been lost.
Regarding using the money that you separated from your earnings, if you do not have enough money for you basic needs (not luxuries), may take some of the maaser money and use it on yourself.
IY”H you should be zoche to have all of your needs, plus much more, and still be able to give chomesh.
