lashon hara?

Question:

B”H
Kavod haRav,
There were several people sitting at a table and someone asked me if “he was making faces while they were speaking?” I answered that I don’t know and I was not sure what they were talking about. My question is: did I speak lashon hara because while I can guess who they may have been asking about, they did not specifically name a person, and there were several people at the table…If I did accidentally speak lashon hara by replying “I don’t know etc.”, do I have to ask the suspected person forgiveness? Thank you sincerely.

Answer:

Hi,

What you answered was perfect. You did not give any recognition to the lashon hora statement that was made. You definitely didn’t speak lashon hora. You should not accept what the person said, because you don’t want to listen to lashon hora either.

Best wishes
