Question:
There was a power-cut in our house on Shabbos morning. We were about to have Shabbos lunch – was there any way that we can have the power turned back on? The only non-Jew in the area is a two-minute walk away, and we had a baby with us and the house was very cold. Could we get the non-Jew to turn the power back on (it was just the fuse that blew) with the intention for the heating for the baby and the food will be permitted to eat?
Another question, if we go to someone before Shabbos by bus and plan to walk the way back (there is an eruv) are we allowed to put the bus travel card in one of the pockets of the stroller bag before Shabbos and then it would be permitted to walk back with it?

Hello,
- Regarding the power cut, since there is a small baby there and it is cold, it is permitted to ask a gentile to turn the fuse back on. The food will be permitted to eat because the gentile didn’t mean to turn the electric burner on. Since it was done via psik riesha of a gentile when there is a Shabbos need, it is permitted.
- The bus card should not be put into the bag in order to bring it home on Shabbos. The reason is because moving the bag when the bus card is inside it is tiltul min hatzad, and the halacha is that if the muktza can be shaken out from on (or from inside) the non muktza item, this is what should be done. Therefore, you would be required to shake the bus card out before moving the carriage at your host home.
