Drinking on Tisha ba’av

Question:

1. Can one swallow his saliva on Tisha ba’av or should it be spit out. If spit out -in what receptacle
2. As a symbol of discomfort can one drink one’s urine

Answer:

1. There are some pious people who do this for Yom Kippur, however we don’t find it regarding Tisha B’av.
2. We are not allowed to do disgusting things. There is an issur called baal tishaktzu. Chaza gave us other civilized ways of being uncomfortable. If you want sleep on the floor and put a rock under your pillow. Otherwise spend all the time you have learning about the Churban.
