Last name

Question:

In my family, some have the last name “Kay,” which had been shortened from a longer name.
However, there is a disagreement on how to write this in hebrew, is it spelled with 2 yuds or only 1 yud?
That is, kuf yud yud, or just kuf yud.
Which one is grammatically correct?

Answer:

The technical s[elling does’t really matter, and whatever you are more comfortable with doing is just fine. Techncally It would seem that in modern Hebrew it would be with two yuds, because the name is not Ki but Kay.

Best wishes
