Hello,
- I see clients in the late afternoon as a psychologist. I have some appointments at 4:30 and 5:30 during Hanukkah. Should I cancel/reschedule them so I can light candles at sunset?
- If not, but if I have one at 5:30 but not 4:30 should I wait until 6:30 or light at 4:30 and then go back to work?
- If one is not lighting until later, is other work/exercise allowed between sunset and lighting (e.g., writing notes, etc?)

- If you can, you should reschedule the appointments, so that when the time of candle lighting comes, you will be able to light on time. There are different customs when to light, some people light at sunset, and some light when the stars come out (and this is the custom of most people in the states. If your custom is to light at sunset, then reschedule that appointment so that you can light on time.
- I don’t know what 5:30 is for you, but if it is after the time to light, then light before the appointment. A person that is busy, may light candles from plag hamincha, however one must them make sure that the candles or oil will stay lit until half an hour after the stars come out.
- It depends why the person is not lighting. If it is because they can’t light yet, (you’re waiting for your husband) then it is permitted to do work then, however if the person can light then we may not get involved with work or exercise until after lighting the candles.
