We have two containers of olive oil that we used for chanukah candles. Should we not use the oil that is left in the bottles for anything else, like cooking?

The reason we don’t use the leftover oil from the Chanukah menorah is because that oil has been earmarked for mitzva use. In fact, according to some poskim, it only applies to oil that was supposed to burn, during the half hour after dark, which didn’t burn, but not if extra oil was put into the cup. Others disagree with this and say that it will apply to any oil put into the cups, unless one specified that it should not be kadosh. All would agree that oil that was not put into the cups in the first place, is not considered, designated for mitzva, because everyone knows that there is leftover oil in the bottle. Therefore, you have no problem using the leftover oil in the bottle for cooking etc.
