Adding water to a pool on Shabbos

Question:

My pool water was getting low on shabbos and I was concerned that the filter would break if no water was added to the pool. Am I allowed to turn on a basic faucet attached to a hose on shabbos to fill up the pool and to prevent the filter from breaking?

Answer:

Hello,

Adding water to the pool will depend on how your filter works. If the filter will turn on because you are adding more water, then it is problematic to turn on, on Shabbos. However, if the filter will be working all the time regardless of the amount of water in the pool, then it is permitted to add water to it in the way you described.
