Question:
Hello Rabbi
My soon to be 13 year old son has been learning Torah ( Gemara, kitzur) with the assistant rabbi of our local Chabad.
We made a decision to send him to a proper Torah school next year. The tuition for the extra studies with the rabbi will then exceed our budget, and theoretically become unnecessary as he will be receiving Torah education at school.
I would like to potentially continue his lessons with the Rabbi as I suspect he would really benefit from the income; even though my son will attend a Torah school I think he will benefit from the lessons and the positive influence as well. May I use maaser funds for these (extra ) lessons ?
Thanks for your consideration
Answer:
Hello,
You may use maser money for this, as the reason you ae doing it is not because of your obligation to teach you son Torah, rather in order to support the needy assistant Rabbi.
Best wishes
