Future Formula
The Mabit[1] is bothered that after the redemption arrives, how will we say some of the tefillos and brachos that we say nowadays, as they will not be relevant. For example, in Shemoneh Esrei, we say תקע בשופר גדול לחרותנו…, sound the great shofar for our freedom, raise the banner to gather our exiles and speedily gather us together… In the next bracha we say השיבה שופטינו כבראשונה…, restore our judges as in earliest times… Another example is the bracha that begins ולירושלים עירך…, and to Yerushalayim Your city may You return… May You rebuild it soon… In the bracha of Retzei we say והשב את העבודה…, restore the service to the Holy of Holies…Who restores His Presence to Tzion. And there are many other examples. How do we solve this conundrum?
The Mabit explains that the formula of such brachos and tefillos will be changed when the redemption arrives. How so? Let’s take for instance what we say in Ahava Rabba. Now we say, ושבור עול הגוים…, break the yoke…from upon our necks and lead us speedily with upright strength to our land. However, in the future that formula will change to ונודה לך על ששברת עול הגוים…, we thank You for breaking the yoke…
Let’s take another example: The bracha of Teka B’shofar will be changed from תקע בשופר גדול לחרותנו… to נודה לך ה’ אלה-ינו על שתקעת בשופר גדול לחרותנו ונשאת נס…, we thank You, Hashem our G-d for sounding the great shofar…
All the brachos and tefilos will exist in the future but some of them will need to be changed into the formula of gratitude and past tense as we just mentioned.
