Change or addition of parent’s name in regard to kesuba or misheberach

Question:

What is the halacha regarding the names of children whose parents changed or added names (later in life), particularly vis-a-vis kesuba or misheberach? Does the parent’s name appear as it was at birth, or as it is now? Also, if the mother was not given a Hebrew name and wants to add it, do we say both in a misheberach. Would be happy to see the mekoros, thank you.

Answer:

Hello,

If the parent changed their Jewish name, or added one, (similar to when the child changes their name), if it is a name that the parent is going to be called by it from now on, then the kesuba of the children should be changed, to show the new name. This would be done after thirty days, (when then new name is already established) and a new kesuba should be written. In the new kesuba, it should be written that a new kesuba is being written due to a change of name.

Regarding saying a misheberach, the minhag is to be to say both names.
