Obligation to pay when hit by car

Question:

A student of mine was visiting Israel and he was crossing the street against the light. He was hit by a car. (Boruch Hashem hes fine) the driver of the car has reached out to say that since this man was crossing against the light he should pay for damages to the car. Is the pedestrian obligated to pay? (We do not know if the driver is Frum or not)
Thank you,

Answer:

 Hello,

It is possible that he has to compensate him, if he damaged his car, but it depends on the circumstances, which would have to be determined when both parties are present.

Best wishes
