Question:
My child stole a candy from a restaurant. If I were to return cash — do I need to return the individual retail price, or a conservative bulk-sale price
(it’s an item that is clearly procured via bulk sale).
Answer:
Hello,
Whenever someone steals from a store they have to pay the retail price, as this is the correct market value of the item. even though the dstore got it for a cheaper price. as a side point, you technically do not have to pay for it, although it is the correct thing to do.
Best wishes
can the item itself be returned as replacement or does the retail price need to be returned?
It is best to return the actual item that was taken. (v’heishiv es hegezeila, means the actual stolen item)
